The Get Pure®/Stay Pure Technology from A to Z
What Is It?
This L'Avant Garde's patented technology is a uniquely effective hair
cleansing system, which addresses the needs of professional hair stylists
and consumers alike for a product that enhances every aspect of their
chemical services (hair color, perms, lightening and relaxing). The line
includes the professional Get Pure Pre-Color Clarifying Treatment, and
the retail once-a-week Stay Pure Clarifying Shampoo.
How Does It Work?
The Get Pure technology employs a unique blend of mild surfactants,
natural chelating agents extracted from rice, and other effective ingredients
which work together to purify the hair of all types of contamination
including metallic, medications, "swimmers' green", as well as cosmetic
and styling aids buildup. This can all be done in a single application
without the need to pre- or post-shampoo, as required by most available
treatments.
Who Is It For?
- A. Salon Professionals – Because the hair they work with may be
contaminated with metals which are harmful to all chemical services.
Get Pure eliminates unexpected problems.
- B. Swimmers – Because they are constantly exposed to copperbased
algaecides and chlorine which add a greenish tint to the hair. Get
Pure rids the hair completely of the greenish tint.
- C. Consumers Using Well Water – Because well water is enriched
with all kinds of minerals, which weigh down the hair and cause
dullness. Get Pure will restore body and shine.
- D. Frequent Users of Hair Styling Aids and Conditioners – Because
many cosmetic hair products contain metals and resins. Get Pure is
designed to remove all types of build-up, leaving the hair in a pristine
condition.
- E. People on Medications or Living Among Smokers - Because they
have a harder time managing their hair. Get Pure will remove
medications and odor, and restore manageability.
- F. Travelers - Because they use water of unknown quality when they travel. Get Pure provides insurance policy for a hairdresser when a
client returns from a trip. A smart strategy for a client planning a trip is to
take along a travel size bottle of Stay Pure Clarifying shampoo.

Get Pure/ Stay Pure Questions & Answers
Q. What Is The Source Of Metal Contaminants In Hair?
A. Contamination of hair by metals is unavoidable. Metallic water pipes in homes, well water, chlorinated water, swimming pools treated with algaecides and even some hair care products constantly deposit metals on all hair types. Hair is a strong binder of these metals, so that once these metals are captured by the hair, they are hard to wash off. As a result, a slow gradual build-up intensifies with time.
Q. What Is The “Green Hair” Syndrome?
A. The “green hair” syndrome is a term used by the medical community to describe the greenish tint observed in the blond hair of young people, especially swimmers. It has been determined that this discoloration results from the accumulation of copper from swimming pools in the lightly-colored hair of individuals. It is not due to chlorine as some people erroneously think, although chlorine intensifies the process. This greenish tint is independent of hair type or color. Dark hair binds as much copper as light blond hair although the greenish color obviously is not readily visible.
Q. Can I use Get Pure with other color lines?
A. Yes. Get Pure can be used just before any color service regardless of what
brand is used. The results will be quite pleasing. The color will be richer, more vivid
and will last longer.
Q. Is it a must to use Get Pure before a chemical service?
A. No, it is not a must. Not every hair is contaminated with metals to the
same degree. However, one cannot tell which hair is contaminated just by looking
at it, and Get Pure is more than just an insurance policy. It wards off problems
before they happen and even if no problems are expected, a Get Pure treatment will
leave your clients raving about the condition and feel of the hair.
Q. Can I use Get Pure without heat?
A. Get Pure is recommended to be used with heat at least for first time users.
Subsequent treatments may be performed at room temperature if the client uses Stay
Pure at home between salon visits.
Q. Will Stay Pure strip color?
A. No. Stay Pure clarifying shampoo is one of the mildest products on the
market. It does not rely on high loads of surfactants which can strip some color, like
other products do. Instead, its effectiveness is due to the special blend of natural and
other chelating agents. It keeps surfactant levels and therefore color loss to a
minimum.
Q. Why are metals so harmful to color and perm?
A. Metals such as copper, chromium and iron are harmful to all chemical
services: First, they cause the rapid breakdown of peroxide developers which results
in heat buildup and generation of excess free radicals that can damage the hair
structure. Second, they cause oxidative color molecules to react quickly and form
larger color molecules on the surface of the hair, blocking dye entry inside the
cuticles where they are intended. As a result, color deposited on the surface will
wash out. Third, metals also cause perm molecules to be neutralized, and bonding
lotion to be weakened and the perm therefore loses its activity. Fourth, bleaches are
similarly affected. Both the boosters in the bleach powder and the developer break
down fast with more heat being generated. The bleach mixture swells due to rapid
release of oxygen.
Q. If I don’t swim and I don’t use well water, would I still get metals in my
hair?
A. Yes. We all use galvanized iron or copper pipes in our homes. Although
the amount of metals leaching from these pipes is negligible per single use, yet
buildup will increase with repeated use. (Have you turned on the faucet after a few
days away from home and noticed its color?) What makes things worse is that once
these metals hit the hair they bind so strongly that regular shampoos cannot take
them out.
