Q. Does cream peroxide act as a conditioner during the coloring process?

A. Cream developers contain modified fatty acids and may seem to deliver smoother wet combing than liquid peroxides. But in order to be called a ‘conditioner,’ a product must bind to the hair in order to leave a conditioning effect. On the contrary, peroxides rinse completely from the hair, leaving behind no conditioning agents. Conditioning agents are not recommended in the developer because they may destabilize the peroxide and may reduce color deposit.
